The breeches were officially termed as “breeches for unmounted personnel” (Stiefelhose für Unberittene). They were made of durable, smooth or cord-like ribbed, brown-olive cloth in design and make as the field grey breeches, with laterally buttoned leg-slashes and no reinforcing patches on the seat. This model proved unsatisfactory since it had to be worn with suspenders. Therefore, it was soon replaced by a new model with a horizontal waist edge and with a built-in belt. The belt was made of webbing or uniform cloth identical to the trousers. On the right front of the waistband was a short, 5 cm wide belt with a pointed end, and on the left front was a sewn-on three-pronged metal buckle.
